2022 Howard Park Flint Rock Shiraz

The exquisite beauty of Frankland River shines through in this delightful expression of the region. Perfumed notes of spices, dark chocolate and plum with a little cherry lift. It’s rich and intense but typical of this region it presents with effortless finesse. It is quite brilliant and alive throughout, with fine chalky tannin and a subtle ferruginous character completing an outstanding value wine.

Another very good Flint Rock focusing on dark fruit, ripe tannins and a richness across the fuller-bodied palate. In between, there’s the inky, stony character of Frankland River. Such an appealing imprint with its savoury outlay.

Very deep blue-purple colour, ahead of an intense nose reminiscent of blackberry, tapenade and peppery spice, There’s a lovely purity about its core of shiraz fruit, with tangy, savoury black fruit and black olive flavours treading a tasty line between ripe fruit and savoury elements. Tannins are ripe, the finish is long. Good value.

Dark cherry, blackberry and java plum skin meld with black pepper spice and a core of minerality straight off, making for an appealing aromatic profile. Hints of menthol and cherry pit beneath. The palate is medium bodied with vibrant, forward fruit notes mirroring the nose, and a cooling mouthfeel. Tangy plum skin, blackberry, and black pepper are swept up in bright acidity and firm-but-fine silty tannins to a fresh close. There’s a good balance of savouriness and fruit. Overall, a lovely, elegant and vibrant example with ample structure.
