Morey-Saint-Denis is a commune and corresponding appellation in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy. The vast majority of production is Pinot Noir, with only a tiny amount of vineyard land planted to Chardonnay. Its position between the legendary neighbouring villages of Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny bears some telling relevance to the style and quality of its wines. There is a frank, lush fruitiness about a good Morey, often with dark earth and forest overtones.

Mature vines in the heart of the premier cru belt of Morey-Saint-Denis coupled with sensitive winemaking have produced a poster child for everything that is good about this treasured village. The fruit profile of this wine is absolutely compelling, evoking that character of “wildness” with a spectrum of red and darker fruits moving through shades of sweet and sour and constantly evolving as the wine aerates. There is a foundation support of highly complementary ageing in predominantly older oak, which allows the inherent minerality of the terroir to support the fruit while providing its own sensory intrigue. This is a wine to savour and evaluate over time as the interplay between acidity and tannin, flavour and structure, presence and delicacy reveals itself with the striking individuality we celebrate in great wine from Bourgogne.
