Arbor Novae Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a bunch selection from Block 29 of the Leston Vineyard, located in the Wilyabrup district of the Margaret River region. This area is renowned for soil profiles considered ideal for Cabernet, and benefits from its balanced climatic location in the middle of the region, yet still close to the Indian Ocean.
Block 29 is a dry-grown block of Cabernet planted with a Massale Selection of Houghton clone vines procured from the Abercrombie vineyard in Mount Barker.
From the 2016, 2017 and 2018 vintages sections of the block were isolated and hand-harvested separately. All the isolated bunches were from the more sheltered eastern side of each vine row. Identical winemaking techniques were employed for each vintage so that the bottled wines reflect the prevailing conditions of each growing season.
In 2017 only 118 bottles of Arbor Novae Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon were produced. Each bottle is individually numbered and the harvest and bottling dates are noted on the label.

TASTING NOTE
Vintage
Aromas of dried herbs, savoury spice, and crushed stone come to the forefront supported by a core of fresh mulberry and blueberry fruit, suggestive of cooler vintage conditions. Cracked peppercorn, olive, bay leaf, coffee, and graphite are present on the nose, interwoven between lifted notes of briary berries. Subtle and layered, this wine displays a crushed rock minerality that adds dimension to the more typical fruit and spices aromas. Blue fruits fill out the palate, washing across the mouth with a fine, supple texture driven by tart acidity and leading into powdery, chalky tannin. A wine with plenty of complexity to be discovered, it is ready to enjoy now yet would only benefit from more bottle ageing.
